My Vision
Interesting challenges and business opportunities create within me a drive to conquer them. This drive enables me to solve problems using existing and emerging technologies in innovative ways. In such an environment, my past experience, problem solving skills and entrepreneurial abilities will be used to enhance existing products and bring new ideas into fruition.
Why Me
Envisioning innovative solutions to complex problems and matching them to business objectives is my forte. The strategic transformation of these solutions into designs for implementation is a skill of mine that complements this. My unique experience solving problems at the detailed, local and global levels within and across organizations enables me to then carry a design through the implementation phase to a finished solution. I am a broad technologist, and excel at working in diverse, multi -organizational teams and problem solving in a global environment.
Capabilities
I have turned bleeding-edge technology into profit and can do it again. I am able to clearly identify the individual parts which combine to complete the bigger picture, and I understand the creative aspect of the design process as well as the practical troubleshooting involved in transforming the design into reality. Knowledgeable regarding both network and server hardware, I am well-versed in UNIX administration, network troubleshooting and design. I am familiar with business continuity planning, as well as 24x7 uptime operations, both from a support and operations perspective. I also collaborate well with both small and large teams locally and internationally.
Experience
Network Engineer, SETON Healthcare Network; Austin, TX — Nov 1999 - Present
Assisted in network design for all of SETON's campuses. Collaborated on the design and implementation of one of Austin's largest wireless infrastructures. Designed and implemented seamless wireless login systems across all SETON campuses, while separately allowing public access at all sites. Also created centrally managed repository for all network authentication, both wired and wireless. Created inbound/outbound enterprise fax solution. Designed, implemented and maintain enterprise email system. Also managed day-to-day operations and troubleshooting of SETON's network and over 30 UNIX servers.
Senior Support Analyst, IBM; Austin, TX — April 1998 - Oct 1999
Assisted customers with disaster recovery of servers, configuring network services, RAID, Parallel Cluster services, and High-Availability Services. Handled software and hardware problem determination and diagnostics.
Assistant System Administrator, Sauda V.G. Skule; Sauda, Norway — Aug 1993 - June 1996
Performed miscellaneous duties, such as backups, disk maintenance and troubleshooting. Participated in the conversion of the school's network from coax ACRNET to Ethernet running Novell 3.12. Also installed and maintained a separate network running Novell 3.12.
Education
Undertook partial credit toward degree in Computer Science at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN, with a focus on network and infrastructure security. Also currently training for CCNA certification, with an estimated completion of October 2008.
Other
I have experience with virtual communities and immersive 3D worlds. One of these, Second Life, has given me the ability to experiment with various business models and guerrilla marketing. Over the course of a few weeks, I designed, implemented and brought to market an object within Second Life that allows people to sell their creations. This device was (and still is) rather popular, having turned a cash profit within a few months. Other experience includes VoIP and related technologies, small-scale embedded systems, GPS integration and wireless mesh networking. I am fluent in most programming and scripting languages, and am fluent in German and Norwegian. I am also skilled in professional audio and live sound productions from small ensembles to larger productions.
